We were just at our hometown display, so no scenic backdrop like the Arch.

After the 4th, we headed on vacation to North Carolina and visited Adrian's dad. Abram got to reel in his first fish with Grandpa Chip.
You wouldn't know that Abram only sees Grandpa Chip and Grandma Debbie a couple times a year - he was thrilled to spend time with them.
Silly pic of me at the Science Museum:
And a family photo with my handsome guys inside a giant mouth.
Between the streak of heat and the threat of rain, we barely squeezed in a hike in North Carolina. On our way up, Adrian noticed this next to the path:
And we enjoyed the view at the end:

I have been hoping to get a photo of Abram sleeping (free of distractions and ugly pajamas) for a long time now. We checked in the hotel at naptime on our way westward and I seized the opportunity for this one. My little love!
And our unplanned "plan" for the way home was to meander through the Smokies, walk, sightsee, hike. Instead - nothing but rain. Constant rain. Up in the fog and clouds we couldn't even enjoy a scenic overlook. This is as scenic as we got - at least Abram loved the tunnels on our long windy drive!
I was more than a little disappointed, so I found the nearest hiking spot as soon as the rain cleared even if we were almost home. Shawnee National Forest is less than 2 hours away. Supposed to have waterfalls, but all the rain we were dealing with completely missed Illinois and the falls were dry.
I was busy with a lot of photos sessions for the rest of the month, so my family photos were lacking other than the Troy Homecoming. We ran into a buddy of Abram's from school there, so we gave in and bought ride tickets. Worth it for the cute photos if nothing else!

So sad to see summer ending :(
